DuPont de Nemours S.a.r.l. (Contern, Luxembourg) showcased its technology range and growing portfolio of material solutions for patient-centric medical device applications at the MEDICA 2019 International Trade Fair on November 18-21 in Düsseldorf, Germany.
The MEDICA is the world's largest medical trade fair for medical technology, electromedical equipment, laboratory equipment, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals. MEDICA provides the medical device industry with a central market for innovative products and systems that result in an important contribution to the efficiency and quality of patient care. The combination of product shows with international congresses, forums, as well as expert workshops, and the exchange of professional views make MEDICA a meeting point for international professionals from various fields in the medical sector.
DuPont’s polymers aim to enable the design of smaller, less invasive and more performant self-administered drug delivery devices, and the company’s advance wound and ostomy care attempt to ensure more reliable and comfortable skin adhesion for wearable devices by using DuPont silicone skin adhesive technology. Additionally, the company demonstrated to visitors how to reinforce processability with the highest purity DuPont Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) and High Consistency Rubber (HCR) solutions for demanding medical devices.
At this year’s MEDICA, DuPont also exhibited its Tyvek solutions which are used in virtually every form of sterile medical packaging for a wide variety of products, such as surgical kits, medical instrumentation or injection systems. Tyvek provides tear resistance, durability, breathability and superior microbial barrier to make sterile packaging which helps ensure medical devices that start sterile, stay sterile throughout their lifecycle.
At MEDICA 2019, DuPont also introduced the next generation of wireless wearable monitoring solutions by combining DuPont Intexar soft stretchable electronics and DuPont silicone soft skin adhesives in a connected wearable patch prototype, designed by the Holst Center and manufactured by Pronat Medical. DuPont Intexar is a revolutionary ink and film that integrates seamlessly into textiles. It transforms materials into smart wearables and provides an effective way to sense and transmit biometric signals. With its smooth design, this form-fitting technology expands and flexes to optimize mobility and comfort. Bonded directly to fabric, Intexar Health is thin and lightweight, making it easy to wear and easy to use. When placed directly on skin, Intexar Health has sensors that are able to detect the body’s natural electrical signals. Gentle on-body heating and mild electro-stimulation are both possible, delivering pain relief to specific areas. The manufacturer-ready, Intexar Health can be easily integrated into existing materials, providing smart wearable health care for use by consumers and medical professionals.
