Medical imaging company Sectra AB (Linkoping, Sweden) has announced the establishment of an office in Milan, Italy. A rapidly growing market in Italy for PACS and mammography equipment led to the decision, says Sectra, which has already made PACS installations in some Italian hospitals.

To open an office in Italy is a natural step in our international expansion of the company, notes Dr. Torbjorn Kronander, president of Sectra Imtec, a subsidiary that conducts the medical imaging business of Sectra. The Italian healthcare market is one of the most important in the world when it comes to radiology. Now that the technology is established, we expect the Italian market for PACS to really take off.

Sectra plans to introduce its new full-field digital mammography system to the market in 2001 and expects Italy and potential Italian partners to be an important part of the business. Internationally, Sectra PACS are marketed and sold through partners, the largest of which is Philips Medical Systems.
