Alliance on Test for Congestive Heart Failure

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has agreed to support the development of a diagnostic test for congestive heart failure (CHF) by Syn X Pharma Inc. (Toronto, Canada).

The agreement will provide Syn X with funding to undertake the research and development of unique, stage-specific heart failure proteins. These will be used to create simple, rapid blood tests to diagnose heart failure in its earliest stages. Currently, there is no test to identify early-stage heart failure in asymptomatic patients, says Syn X. The company has isolated a number of blood markers associated with heart failure and expects to develop a blood test for regulatory review in 2001. NRC support will also allow Syn X to develop a test for the early identification of CHF, when medical intervention can still save lives. Some of the funding will also be devoted to identifying previously unknown blood markers to add to Syn X's diagnostic pipeline.

Syn X has also developed a test to diagnose stroke (Strokepanel). The company capitalizes on its Proteomics Discovery Platform to discover novel drug targets and develop diagnostic tests.
