Rapid in vitro tests for morphine, cocaine, marijuana, amphetamine, and methamphetamine have been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The tests provide users with visual, qualitative results within five minutes. Each test is contained in a one-time use device that does not require any equipment.

Developed by Alfa Scientific (San Diego, CA, USA; ), the tests are designed to meet the need for rapid, on-site testing for drugs of abuse in the workplace, emergency room, or elsewhere.

Alfa Scientific, which has received ISO 9001 certification, has other tests in development. The company is offering the five tests cleared by the FDA under its Instant-View brand
name but can also provide privately labeled tests under a special arrangement.
