Cardiac Assays for Low Volume Labs

Specially packaged cardiac marker assays for troponin I and mass creatine kinase-MB (CKMB) are designed for use by lower-volume laboratories.

Both the troponin I (LTNI) and the LMMB (mass CKMB (LMMB) assay are short- turnaround assays frequently employed as critical elements in diagnosing myocardial infarction. These cardiac markers become elevated when heart damage has occurred in patients experiencing chest pain.

The specially packaged Flex(TM) assays are from Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA; www.dadebehring.com) and are designed for use on the company's Xpand HM instrument, found in many low-volume laboratories. The smaller packaging sizes enable these laboratories to provide these cardiac markers on the same testing platform as other STAT chemistry assays, which reduces labor and provides faster turnaround times for hospital emergency departments.
